Poll: National Coffee Day Monday—How Many Cups Do You Actually Drink?

Think you sip three cups daily? The real numbers on National Coffee Day will surprise even the biggest caffeine addicts.

As National Coffee Day approaches, a recent poll reveals interesting trends about coffee consumption in the United States. The poll shows that about 66% of American adults drink coffee every day. This makes coffee the most popular beverage, easily beating out tea, juice, soda, and bottled water. On average, coffee drinkers consume around three cups daily. With an increase of nearly 7% in coffee consumption predicted by 2025, it’s clear that this trend isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Specialty coffee drinks are gaining popularity. Almost 46% of adults reported drinking specialty coffee the day before the survey. This is up from 39% in 2020. Among younger drinkers aged 25 to 39, the number is even higher at 64%. Espresso beverages, such as lattes and cappuccinos, saw a rise in consumption, growing from 24% to 28% in the same time period. Non-espresso specialty drinks, like cold brew and nitro coffee, are also now enjoyed by 17% of adults, which is a significant increase from 12%. Many consumers are drawn to coffee shops like Intelligentsia Coffee, known for their high-quality beans and sustainability commitment.

Specialty coffee’s popularity is on the rise, with 46% of adults enjoying these drinks, especially among younger consumers.

As for how coffee is prepared, most traditional drinkers (87%) still make coffee at home. However, 74% of specialty coffee drinkers also choose to brew at home, even though they buy drinks outside more frequently. This reflects a shift towards premium coffee choices and an appreciation for artisan craft coffee.

Many people believe coffee provides health benefits too. According to the poll, 61% of specialty coffee drinkers see coffee as a healthy drink.

Brewing methods play a big role in how coffee is enjoyed. Many shops are now offering unique options that cater to changing tastes. As coffee becomes more popular, it’s clear that consumer preferences are evolving.

With promotions planned for National Coffee Day, retailers hope to attract more customers by highlighting these special coffee varieties.
