Uganda’s coffee export volume rose in March 2026 while the average export price fell, trimming the sector’s earnings to US$173.37 million (UGX 646.75 billion) for the month.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries reported that 671,152 60‑kg bags were shipped, a 3.19 % increase over March 2025, but export value dropped 13.56 % year‑on‑year. Robusta accounted for 567,405 bags worth US$134.0 million, and Arabica contributed 103,747 bags valued at US$39.36 million.
According to Charmar, the average export price slipped to US$4.31 per kg, down from US$4.63 per kg in February 2026 and US$5.14 per kg in March 2025, a decline linked to a global supply surge from Vietnam, Indonesia and Ethiopia.
Europe remained the dominant destination, absorbing 62 % of March shipments, followed by Africa (21 %) and Asia (12 %). The same source noted that global coffee consumption is projected at 173.9 million bags for the 2025/26 coffee year, with production expected to reach 178.8 million bags.
Reuters reported that Uganda’s overall export value rose 66.8 % YoY in February 2026, driven by higher earnings from coffee and gold shipments, but the March price softening could curb future earnings. The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries also forecasts export volumes of about 680,000 60‑kg bags for April 2026.
