Swiss coffee-machine maker Thermoplan AG has snapped up Mikafi Roasters, a young Swiss firm that creates tiny tabletop roasters for cafés, completing the buyout in August 2025. The deal turns an earlier partnership into full ownership and adds one more piece of Swiss Innovation to Thermoplan’s line-up.
Mikafi’s compact roasters sit right on the café counter, allowing staff to roast green beans in minutes without special training. Customers can watch the Coffee Roasting happen before their drink is brewed.
Thermoplan, based in Weggis, Lucerne, builds super-automatic machines used worldwide. By buying Mikafi, it now handles every step from green bean to finished cup. Baristas can create small, custom roasts on the spot and then feed the fresh beans straight into Thermoplan grinders and brewers. The goal is a seamless bean-to-cup system housed in machines that fit ordinary café space.
From green bean to finished cup, all in one Swiss-built counter-top system
The Mikafi roaster is small enough to stand beside espresso machines or on a shelf. It links wirelessly to the coffee brewer, remembers roasting profiles for house blends, and adjusts times and temperatures through a simple digital panel. New profiles can be saved after each roast, giving every café its own signature flavor without extra labor.
During the upcoming Host Milano event from 17 to 21 October 2025, Thermoplan will unveil the next-gen Mikafi roaster to the public. The acquisition reinforces Thermoplan’s commitment to complete café integration across its product ecosystem.
Thermoplan plans to upgrade the roaster’s controls and design while keeping its tiny footprint. Engineers from both companies are already testing quieter motors, sleeker housings, and quicker cool-down cycles.
Early prototypes will appear at Host Milano 2025 as the company enters the specialty market with a single integrated system. Global chains and independent cafés have both asked for fresher, more personal coffee options. This move answers them directly under one trusted brand.
No outside roaster is needed; beans arrive green in bulk and finish roasting where the drinks are made. Investors noted the acquisition tightens Thermoplan’s grip on high-end automatic coffee gear and opens new revenue from its own small-scale green-bean supplies.
Thermoplan hasn’t shared price details, but production of the updated Mikafi units will continue in Switzerland within Thermoplan’s existing factories.
